St. Joseph’s PG College offers a two-year full time Postgraduate Diploma in Management (Business Management) which is approved by AICTE in 2019. This programme is designed to equip students that enable them to reach responsible global positions in management. It is designed to suit the requirements of the industry, which is constantly looking for Managers with cross-functional skills equipped with IT acumen.

The PGDM Curriculum lays a foundation for a theoretical and analytical understanding of Business Management practices in both national and international standards. This programme is designed to incorporate both theoretical and practical knowledge. The course imparts knowledge and fosters attitudes essential for the growth of students into competent and responsible managers.

This programme prepares the aspirant with multifaceted functionality to meet future challenges and achieve higher growth in their career aspects. Students are nurtured and developed with personalized care and attention, in small work groups/teams and in a practical application-oriented, user – friendly environment.

The programme employs a variety of teaching methodologies, such as case studies, role-play, problem solving exercises, group discussion, computer simulation games, audio-visuals, to teach the students. The curriculum provides exceptional learning opportunities and helps in developing critical and independent thinkers, leadership skills, analytical and decision making skills and desirable values, attitudes and a sense of social responsibility.

The main thrust of the curriculum is designed to make the students industry-ready by inculcating in them an ability to learn from real life situations. The PGDM course curriculum is designed to foster strong conceptual orientation on the basics of various management disciplines, a positive attitude with sound business ethics to make the students excel both personally and professionally.
The programme requirements include 141 credits (70 credits from core courses, 30 credits from elective courses, 6 credits for internship and project and 35 credits for activity based courses )

Activity Based Courses Include

A student is required to do a summer project on any aspect of Business Management in the industry for eight weeks at the end of the first year that is 3rd trimester (May – June).

Most of the core and elective courses are of full-credit courses i.e. 3 Credits. There are some core courses which are offered as two-credit and 1.5 credits also. Each full credit course [3 Credits] imply a total of 30 contact hours, 2 credit courses imply 20 contact hrs and 1.5 credit imply 15 contact hours and is organised during a Term of 10 to 12 weeks.

The courses are offered in the following areas

The student will have the opportunity to get deeper insights in three areas by choosing specializations from the given electives during the second year. The elective courses are offered in the fourth and fifth trimester only. These courses are offered in the areas of Finance, Marketing, Operations, HRM & Business Analytics apart from sectoral areas like Event Management, Social Media, Tourism and Hospitality Management, Agri Business and Banking and Insurance. A student can opt for a maximum of two areas of specialization only and one sectoral area of specialization.

Economic, legal and social environment of Indian business.. Graduates are able to improve their awareness sand knowledge about functioning of local and global business environment and society. This helps in recognizing the functioning of businesses, identifying potential business opportunities, involvement of business enterprises and exploring the entrepreneurial opportunities.

Critical thinking, Business Analysis, Problem Solving & Innovative Solutions (CBPI)

Competencies in quantitative and qualitative techniques. Graduates are expected to develop skills on analysing the business data, application of relevant analysis, and problem solving in other functional areas such as marketing, business strategy and human resources.

Global Exposure and Cross-Cultural Understanding (GECCU)

Demonstrate a global outlook with the ability to identify aspects of the global business and Cross Cultural Understanding.

Social Responsiveness and Ethics
(SRE)

Developing responsiveness to contextual social issues / problems and exploring solutions, understanding business ethics and resolving ethical dilemmas. Graduates are expected to identify the contemporary social problems, exploring the opportunities for social entrepreneurship, designing business solutions and demonstrate ethical standards in organizational decision making. Demonstrate awareness of ethical issues and can distinguish ethical and unethical behaviors.

Effective Communication (EC)

Usage of various forms of business communication, supported by effective use of appropriate technology, logical reasoning, articulation of ideas. Graduates are expected to develop effective oral and written communication especially in business applications, with the use of appropriate technology (business presentations, digital communication, social network platforms and so on).

Leadership and Teamwork (LT)

Understanding leadership roles at various levels of the organization and leading teams. Graduates are expected to collaborate and lead teams across organizational boundaries and demonstrate leadership qualities, maximize the usage of diverse skills of team members in the related context.
